Are you registered with BFRC?
As a window system company we do not manufacture windows and as such we cannot be registered with the BFRC. We do however employ a number of BFRC Certified Simulators. Our products are registered by our window fabricators.
Does triple glazing have a WER rating?
Profile 22’s Triple Glazed windows are capable of attaining a WER A rating, however the actual performance of the window will depend on the products used. You should discuss this with your installer and ask them to confirm the WER rating of your windows.
What is the Window Energy Rating system and how does it affect me?
Much like white goods windows are also rated for energy efficiency. Ratings of A, the highest, through to G, the lowest.. First introduced in the spring 2006 and improved in 2010, the system is designed to give a clear indication to consumers as to the energy performance they can expect from their windows. It measures the whole window including the frame and the glass and takes into account 3 factors which influence the energy performance – heat loss, solar gain and energy lost through air filtration. The minimum level of window that can be fitted now is a C and the minimum recommended by the Energy Saving Trust (hyper link) is a C.
I have condensation on the inside of my windows – are they faulty?
Condensation is occurs naturally and is not indicative of a fault with your windows. As houses have become warmer, the problem has become more apparent. We now have sophisticated heating systems and have eliminated draughts from doors and windows, as well as insulating our lofts. All these elements combined mean we have reduced the level of ventilation into our homes. To reduce the amounts of condensation, consider the following options:
- Open a section of window to provide natural ventilation
- Draught-proof your internal doors and keep doors shut to prevent water vapour transferring from your kitchen and bathrooms to the rest of your home
- Where possible locate your radiators under the window which will help keep the temperature on the inside of your glass at a reasonable level
- Fit a ventilator/ extraction unit in the kitchen and bathroom
- Fit night ventilation facilities in your bedroom windows such as a ventilation grill in or above the door
Are your window profiles made from recycled PVC-U?
There is minimal recycled content in the window frame profile in line with British Standard 12608. The vast majority of this content will be in the reinforcement. Most of the recycled plastic generated through our sister-company, Dekura, is used to produce the reinforcement and other long-life building products such as cills, down-pipes, underground pipes, fascias and soffits. Profile 22 also offers a specialist recycled profile system called RECO22 which is made from 98% recycled material.
Is there a way I can tell the energy rating of my windows, besides reading the label?
The energy rating is determined by various different components of a window. The elements to consider include the frame type (ie: Profile 22), the glass, the gas used to fill the sealed unit and the spacer bar within the sealed unit. Energy-rated windows will have a small sticker applied to the spacer bar inside the sealed unit.
Do you supply triple-glazing and if so, where can I find more information about it?

How should I clean my windows?
Always avoid solvent based or abrasive cleaners. Wash frames with soap and water every four months to remove grime and atmospheric deposits. If required, use a soft cloth to apply a non-abrasive cleaner suitable for plastics. Take care not to disturb any sealant.
The door seals have perished on my external PVC-U porch door. Can you provide replacements?
Your first course of action should be to contact your installer. It is likely that the seals will only have perished on very old installations, in which case, it could be difficult to identify the original installer and the profile system and the seal configuration may well be obsolete with no stocks of seals retained. The only real option is to contact a local window repair specialist to identify the seals and to try and source a suitable replacement.
How should I clean my conservatory?
Always avoid solvent based or abrasive cleaners. Wash frames with soap and water every four months to remove grime and atmospheric deposits. If required, use a soft cloth to apply a non-abrasive cleaner suitable for plastics. Take care not to disturb any sealant. Clean the gutters around your conservatory as required removing leaves and debris.
Will I need planning permission for my conservatory?
This depends on the size of your planned conservatory and whether you have extended your home previously. For detached and semi-detached homes you can add up to 15% onto the original floor plan of your home or 70 cubic metres, whichever is larger, without requiring planning permission. For a terraced house the size in reduced to 10% or 50 cubic metres. Your Profile 22 installer will be happy to advise and, if required, assist you in applying for any planning permission required.
How much will my conservatory cost?
Such a high number of variables in conservatory design, size and materials make it very difficult to give an exact price. Your Profile 22 installer will be able to talk you through all of the options available and their cost implications. It is worth noting that investing in such options as roof vents, specialised heat-reflecting glass and blinds can greatly increase your enjoyment of your conservatory and make it suitable for use year-round.
Can you explain the painting process?
Our coloured profile options are created using a foiling process whereby we bond a coloured foil to the PVC-U profile. The coloured foils themselves are not glossy, but generally do have a sheen to them and usually come with a wood like embossing. There are a limited colour range of special foils that have a flat finish, with no embossing, and have a matt finish. We do not offer a painting service as standard, but this may be available from your installer.
Are all you frames recycled plastic?
Our PVC-U window profiles do contain a percentage of recycled material. The use of such material is governed by our manufacturing Kitemark BS EN 12608: KM 12893. In additional we offer a 98% recycled window system – Reco22. Further details can be found on our website.
Do you have part distributors in the USA?
We no longer have a distribution facility in the USA.
Will Profile 22 windows sound-proof my house from traffic noise?
Sound-proofing is by degree. Double-glazing is better than single and triple-glazing is even better, plus there are other glazing options which can help to reduce noise further. Complete exclusion of all traffic noise is very difficult to achieve but you can certainly reduce it by choosing the right windows. Your Profile 22 installers will be able to offer expert advice on reducing noise in your property.
What is the RAL colour of your UPVC?
The nearest RAL match is 9016 on our white profile. However we recommend that this colour match is checked, before use, to ensure suitability.
Where do I get my FENSA certificate from? Do you supply this?
A ‘FENSA’ certificate has become the common name for what is actually a Building Regulation Control Certificate. Your installer may be a member of FENSA or another organisation called CERTASS which can also issue the certificates. By being members of either of these organizations, installers can show they are able to self-certify their installations as complying with the requirements of Building Regulations. As an alternative, if your installer isn’t a member or if you’ve installed them yourself, you can request a Building Control Officer from your local council to inspect for you. You’ll need to contact your installer and ask them under which scheme they operate. You can check on the websites of both of these organisations to find out if your installer is one of their members.
What guarantees are available?
Your guarantee will be direct with your Profile 22 window installer. An insurance backed guarantee will ensure your windows are covered, should your installer no longer be trading so it is a good idea to discuss this option with them.
