Recycling, Sustainability & The Green Deal
These days it’s more important than ever to conserve resources and minimise waste, and at Profile 22, recycling is becoming ever-more central to our manufacturing processes.
In a highly-regulated industry, environmental standards are paramount and that’s why over the last decade we’ve been pioneering closed-loop recycling of old PVC-U windows and doors in the UK, as well as significantly increasing the recycled content of our UPVC windows, doors and conservatories.
In the past, old PVCU windows would end up in landfill because they couldn’t be recycled, but nowadays, modern recycling processes mean that older PVC-U windows are being turned into the next generation of home improvement products.
During the recycling process, old PVC-U windows and doors are “deconstructed”, cleaned, ground down, and separated from other materials such as metals, mortar and other plastics. The resultant granules are turned into brand-new extruded material, ready to make new units that are thermally efficient, highly secure and require little maintenance. Other materials are recycled as well.
Many homeowners are now replacing their old PVC-U or single-glazed windows and doors, and enhancing their homes with advanced-performance products that provide greater energy efficiency, insulation and protection. This can be done with a minimal impact on the environment and no landfill, thanks to the use of modern recycling technology.
